The Scientific week is an annually organized conference on a given topic where researchers from different disciplines present their research findings. The topic of this year focuses on digitalisation.
1. Background and context
The ubiquity of digitalisation is an
unescapable reality. Digitalisation has become an integral part of personal,
social and professional life. The plurality and complexity of information
fuelled by digital media has eased communication, collaboration and interaction
beyond vicinities. Moreover, the expansion and development of digital media
have facilitated service delivery in education, health business, social and
psychological domains, and the like. For instance, a connected mobile phone is
now, in some countries around the world, sufficient to have access to finance
service at the Bank and money transfer across the world is easier than ever.
Despite the enormous advantages brought by digitalisation, different challenges
are likewise evident. Insecurities, limited competences to manage the
multiplicities of information, abuse of social media, propaganda via social
media, hacking, ecological challenges footprints are just some examples.
Consequently, there is a need of reflecting on not only the opportunities but
also the challenges related to the digitalisation of all our systems in a more
globalising world.
2.Objectives
The purpose of this conference is to
reflect on the current opportunities and challenges of digitalisation in the
process of socio-economic transformation in a more dynamic and globalising
world. Specifically, the conference intends to achieve the following
objectives:
Ø Discuss the current
empirical, conceptual and theoretical evidences about digitalisation in and of
different sectors;
Ø Enrich scientific discourse
about contextualised, discipline-oriented and multi-disciplinary research about
the opportunities and challenges of digitalisation;
Ø Inspire policymakers and
practitioners about the well-reflected integration of digitisation in different
domains.
Ø Stimulate a dynamic network
of research in the domain of digitalization.
